How much of my purchase goes to charity?

Every cause-related product on the site makes claim to a charitable commitment towards a Charity or Non-Profit. This charitable commitment is clearly stated in the "BLUE"box on every product page. Charitable commitments vary and come in many forms. Check the individual product page for specifics.

What is a Non-Profit?

A non-profit organization (abbreviated as NPO, also known as a not-for-profit organization) is an organization that does not distribute its surplus funds to owners or shareholders, but instead uses them to help pursue its chartable goals.

What is the difference between "non-profit" and "not-for-profit”?

The term "not-for-profit organization" (NFPO) is used as a broad-based term that encompasses all organizations that are known variously as charities, non-profits, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), private voluntary organizations (PVOs), civil society organizations (CSOs), etc. "Not-for-profit" is used in preference to "non-profit" in order to emphasize that a defining criterion is the intention of the organization not to make profits for private gain. It is possible that such an organization will in fact make a profit from time to time, but that is not the principal purpose for which it is organized and operated. Nor is its purpose to distribute any portion of any profit for private gain. The major distinguishing characteristic between not-for-profit and for-profit organizations is that the former are governed by the principle of non-distribution.

How are the products and organizations chosen for the site?

Filanthropists.com operates as an open forum under which all non-profits, charities and product resources must be approved. Filanthropists.com works only with organizations demonstrating commitment to their mission, appropriateness for public support, and, of course, organization validity.

Snow Leopard Trust

Snow Leopard Trust

Founded in 1981, the Snow Leopard Trust is the world's leading authority on the study and protection of the endangered snow leopard. At the Snow Leopard Trust we use a combination of approaches that focus on partnering with communities in snow leopard habitat. But as we build community partnerships we use science and research to determine key snow leopard habitat, assess wildlife-human conflict levels, and identify potential resources for conservation programs. Once we have this information we can prioritize the areas where we will work. High priority areas include key snow leopard habitat, with a history of conflict between predators and the communities, and potential resources to sustain a community-based conservation program.
